The XXIV Rospatent International Conference Opened Its Doors
The XXIV Rospatent International Conference, dedicated this year to the transformation of IP in the contemporary environment, was officially opened on 20 October 2020. It became the leading platform for discussing current issues of the IP field development, the mechanism for managing systemic changes in the business environment, international cooperation, digitalization, modern patent analytics, as well as protection and enforcement of IP rights.
The Conference was opened by the Rospatent Head, Mr. Grigory Ivliev:
I welcome you to the annual Rospatent International Conference. Its topics are professional, and its participants are highly professional. This Conference is a part of the governmental Forum “Open Innovation”. With each passing year, it becomes more evident that intellectual property holds a crucial role in the digital economy. Under the national program “Digital Economy” Rospatent creates a convenient environment for the users of IP public services. Our readiness to switch to electronic interaction between experts and applicants allowed us, under the prevailing circumstances, to avoid work disruptions. We also note that the modernization of IP legislation is in demand and is carried out in the interest of citizens. The adoption of the law on geographical indications, on patent examination outsourcing, on 3D models - all these legislative amendments are designed to create favorable conditions for entrepreneurs, inventors, high-tech enterprises, engineering centers. I am convinced that the Conference will be another step towards improving the intellectual property system.
The Conference will hold multiple forums, round tables, sections, and discussions dedicated to modern patent analytics, legislation amendments concerning geographical indications and appellations of origin. The exhibition entitled Innovations for Green Future was also launched.
One of the agenda key topics was the discussion on the protection of intellectual property rights in the field of medicines, including the combat against the so-called “evergreen patents”. Furthermore, the specialists from Rospatent and the Federal Institute of Industrial Property (FIPS) will talk about applications and patents for inventions aimed against COVID-19.
More than 600 participants from 26 countries and 59 Russian regions are taking part in the Conference. Among them, there are representatives of WIPO, EPO, state authorities, foreign IP Offices, public organizations, and the business community, as well as inventors, patent attorneys, and lawyers.
