Rossiyskaya Gazeta: Who will benefit from the EAEU Trademark Agreement?

 

 

According to the Head of Rospatent Grigory Ivliev, the completion of the ratification of the Treaty on Trademarks, Service Marks and Appellations of Origin (AO) of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) will allow the owner of the rights to these intellectual property objects to reduce the time and costs of their protection, as well as draw up applications to the EAEU trademark in Russian or in the state language of the Union country with a translation into Russian The agreement provides for the possibility of converting an application for registration of a trademark filed with the national patent office into an application for an EAEU trademark. The protection of trademarks, service marks and AOs registered in the EAEU will be valid in Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic and Russian Federation for 10 years with the possibility of subsequent renewal. According to Ivliev G., in order to implement the Treaty it will be necessary to adapt departmental information systems to a single standard adopted in the EAEU.
